About HirePass
What we do
HirePass checks four things on every California contractor — license status, bond, workers' comp, and disciplinary history — and translates the result into plain English and 中文. It is free and we don't sell anyone's data.
Our methodology
We pull data from the CSLB public registry and apply a documented rule set to assign one of four verdicts: CLEAR, CAUTION, DO NOT HIRE, or UNVERIFIED. The rule set lives in our code and never editorializes — we show what CSLB shows.
Data sources
All license data comes from the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB) public registry. Snapshots are cached for up to 24 hours. The 'Checked on' timestamp on every result shows when our copy was last refreshed.
Independence
HirePass is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the CSLB.
Corrections & takedown
Found an error? Email corrections@check.preppass.org with the license number and what's wrong. We aim to respond within 3 business days.
Not legal advice
Results on HirePass are a snapshot of public records and should not replace verifying a license directly at cslb.ca.gov or consulting an attorney for legal questions.
