Chapter 2 of 1525% of exam

Broker, Broker-Salesperson, and the 45-Hour Course

Nevada layers its broker licenses into distinct tiers and requires a Broker Management course. This chapter explains the Broker versus Broker-Salesperson distinction and the education path.

Broker vs. Broker-Salesperson

Nevada distinguishes between a Broker, who may operate a brokerage and supervise licensees, and a Broker-Salesperson, who holds broker qualifications but works under a supervising broker rather than running the firm. Both are above the salesperson tier, but only the Broker (or a broker designated for an entity) carries firm-level supervisory responsibility under NRS 645.

The 45-Hour Broker Management Course

A Nevada broker candidate must complete a 45-hour Broker Management course in addition to the general prelicense education. The course covers brokerage operations, supervision, and trust handling at the broker level. This education requirement, together with an experience requirement, is part of what makes the broker license the higher tier.

Experience and Qualification

In addition to education, Nevada broker candidates must meet an experience requirement based on active practice as a licensee. Meeting the education and experience gates qualifies a candidate to sit for the Broker Combination examination. Understanding the tier structure helps a broker know what each license level may do within a firm.
