The Arkansas Unified Exam and Broker Qualification
Arkansas uses a unique unified exam and an experience-based path to the broker tier. This chapter covers the unified exam structure and the broker qualification requirements.
The Unified Exam
Arkansas administers a single unified broker exam that merges general and Arkansas-specific content into one comprehensive test. Because it is not split into separately scored national and state portions, a candidate who fails must retake the whole exam. This differs from the two-portion model most states use.
Broker Qualification
To become an Arkansas principal or executive broker, an applicant generally must have prior active real estate experience and complete additional broker education; AREC rules allow limited waiver or substitution in specified cases. This experience-and-education gate makes the broker license a higher tier than the salesperson license.
