Broker Experience

A distinctive feature of the Arkansas broker exam is that it is:

  • a.Split into a national portion and a state portion scored separately
  • b.Waived for anyone with a college degree
  • c.Given only orally
  • d.A single unified exam combining general and Arkansas content that cannot be split for a retake

Arkansas administers a unified broker exam that merges general and Arkansas-specific content into one comprehensive test; if a candidate fails, the whole exam must be retaken because it is not divided into separately scored national and state portions. This unified structure is different from the two-portion model most states use.

Broker Experience

To become an Arkansas principal or executive broker, an applicant generally must:

  • a.Meet an active-experience requirement as a licensee plus complete required broker education (experience may be reduced or waived only under AREC's rules)
  • b.Simply pay a higher fee with no experience
  • c.Hold a license in another state for one week
  • d.Be at least 65 years old

Arkansas requires broker applicants to have prior active real estate experience and complete additional broker education before qualifying, though AREC's rules provide limited waiver or substitution in specified cases. This experience-and-education gate is what makes the broker license a higher tier than the salesperson license.
