Chapter 5 of 1620% of exam

Missouri Broker Education and Experience

Advancing from salesperson to broker in Missouri requires additional education. This chapter covers the broker prelicense course requirement and the path to a Missouri broker license.

The 48-Hour Broker Prelicense Course

A candidate for a Missouri broker license must complete a 48-hour broker prelicense course approved by the Commission before taking the broker examination. The course covers broker-level topics such as supervision, escrow handling, and brokerage operations that go beyond the salesperson curriculum. This education requirement is part of what makes the broker license the higher tier.

Examination and Application

After completing the required education, the candidate must pass both the national and Missouri state portions of the broker examination and apply to the Commission for the broker license. The classification of the license (for example broker-officer or broker-salesperson) is set based on the licensee's role in the firm at the time of application.

Continuing Education and Renewal

Missouri brokers must complete Commission-approved continuing education, including required core topics, during each license period to renew. Staying current on law changes, agency rules, and escrow requirements is essential for a broker who supervises a firm. Letting a license lapse can require additional steps to restore active status.
