Alcohol & Penalties
Alcohol, drugs, distraction and demerit points affect your licence.
Alcohol
Learner and provisional drivers must have zero blood alcohol. Fully licensed drivers must stay under 0.05. Alcohol impairs reaction time and judgement.
Demerit points
Traffic offences add demerit points; too many within the set period lead to suspension, and novice drivers reach the limit sooner.
Mobile phones
No driver may use a hand-held phone, and learner and P-platers must not use a phone at all, including hands-free.
