Rules of the Road & Right of Way

Right-of-way rules keep intersections orderly and safe.

Uncontrolled and T-intersections

Where two vehicles arrive together with no signs, yield to the vehicle on your right. At a T-intersection, the driver on the road that ends yields to traffic on the continuing through road.

Turning and pedestrians

When turning left, yield to oncoming vehicles going straight or turning right, and to pedestrians. Always yield to pedestrians at marked crosswalks and stop if needed.

Merging

When joining a highway, use the acceleration lane to match the speed of traffic and merge into a safe gap, yielding to vehicles already on the road.
