Safe & Defensive Driving
Defensive driving means anticipating hazards and sharing the road safely.
Slow down and move over
When passing a stopped emergency or tow vehicle with lights flashing, slow to 60 km/h, or the posted limit if it is lower, and move over if you safely can.
School buses and blind spots
On an undivided road, stop in both directions for a school bus with flashing red lights. Before changing lanes, signal, check your mirrors and do a shoulder check to cover your blind spot.
Winter and skids
On ice or snow, slow down and increase your following distance. If you begin to skid, ease off the accelerator, avoid braking hard, and steer smoothly in the direction you want to go.
