Alcohol, Drugs & the Graduated License
Impaired driving is a crime in Arizona, and teen drivers face added restrictions while they gain experience. Knowing these limits protects your license and your safety.
BAC limits
A driver 21 or older is legally impaired at 0.08 percent BAC, though you can be arrested below that if impaired. An Extreme DUI applies at 0.15 percent or higher and carries stiffer penalties.
Zero tolerance under 21
For drivers under 21, any trace of alcohol, marijuana, medication, or drugs that impairs driving results in penalties, and the license can be suspended for two years.
Class G graduated license
A graduated (Class G) license is issued at 16 to under 18. For the first 6 months the teen may not drive between midnight and 5 a.m., and may not carry more than one passenger under 18, with limited family, school, work, and supervised exceptions.
