Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules decide who goes first so traffic moves safely. In Arizona you yield rather than force your way, and you give extra room to stopped emergency vehicles.
Intersections and stops
At a four-way stop, the first driver to arrive goes first; if two arrive together, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. At an uncontrolled intersection, yield to vehicles already there and to the vehicle on your right.
Turns and roundabouts
When turning left you must yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians. Enter a roundabout to the right and yield to pedestrians and to any vehicle already circulating.
Move Over Law
When you approach a stopped emergency, law-enforcement, or service vehicle showing flashing lights, move over a lane if you safely can, or slow down and pass with caution. This is required under Arizona's Move Over Law.
