Sharing the Road
Look out for pedestrians, bike riders, heavy vehicles and emergency services.
Pedestrians
When turning at an intersection you must give way to pedestrians crossing the road you are turning into. Take extra care near crossings, schools and bus stops.
Bicycle riders
When passing a bicycle rider you must leave a minimum gap of 1 metre where the speed limit is 60 km/h or less, and 1.5 metres where it is over 60 km/h. Wait for a safe chance to pass.
Emergency and heavy vehicles
Move left and give a clear path to emergency vehicles with lights and sirens. You must slow to 40 km/h when passing stationary emergency vehicles displaying flashing lights.
