PPE and Signage
Understanding safety signs on Australian sites and the correct use of personal protective equipment, including sun protection.
Safety signs
Yellow signs warn of a hazard, blue signs are mandatory (something you must do), red relates to prohibition or fire, and green shows emergency information such as first aid and exits.
Personal protective equipment
Typical construction PPE includes a hard hat, high-visibility clothing, safety footwear and, where needed, eye, hearing, respiratory and hand protection. PPE is the last line of defence and must be worn and maintained correctly.
Sun protection
Because much construction work is outdoors, UV radiation is a real hazard. Manage it with hats or hard-hat brims, covering clothing, sunscreen and shade to reduce the risk of skin damage and skin cancer.
