Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Knowing who must yield keeps intersections predictable and safe.
Uncontrolled intersections
Where there are no signs or signals and two vehicles arrive together, yield to the vehicle on your right. At a four-way stop, the first vehicle to stop goes first, and ties are settled by yielding to the right.
Turning
When turning left you must yield to oncoming traffic going straight or turning right, and to pedestrians. You may turn right on a red light after coming to a full stop, unless a sign prohibits it.
Roundabouts
As you approach a roundabout, give way to traffic already circulating and enter only when there is a safe gap. Signal before your exit and watch for cyclists and pedestrians.
