Safe Driving & Sharing the Road
You share the road with pedestrians, cyclists, buses and emergency vehicles who need extra care.
Pedestrians and cyclists
Yield to pedestrians at crosswalks and stop when needed to let them cross. When passing a cyclist, leave at least 1 metre of space, or 1.5 metres where the speed limit is over 50 km/h.
School buses
On an undivided road, all traffic in both directions must stop for a school bus displaying flashing red lights, and stay stopped until the lights stop flashing.
Emergency vehicles
When an emergency vehicle approaches with lights and siren, pull to the right clear of intersections and stop. Slow down and move over for vehicles stopped at the roadside with flashing lights.
