Speed, Following & Conditions
Match your speed and following distance to the limit, the traffic and the weather.
Speed limits
Unless a sign says otherwise, the limit is 50 km/h inside a city or municipality and 80 km/h outside urban areas. School zones are 30 km/h during posted hours on school days, and playground zones are 30 km/h from dawn to dusk every day.
Following distance
Keep at least a two-second gap from the vehicle ahead, and increase it on wet, icy or crowded roads. Larger gaps give you time to see, react and stop.
Poor conditions
Rain, snow, fog and darkness reduce traction and visibility, so slow down and turn on your headlights. Stopping distances grow sharply on slippery surfaces.
