Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules keep intersections orderly; remember they say who must yield, not who is guaranteed to go.
Four-way and open intersections
At a four-way stop, the first to arrive goes first; if two arrive together, the driver on the right has the right of way. At an open intersection, yield to any vehicle already in it and to traffic on your right.
Turns
When turning left, yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians before you turn. You may turn right on a red light after a complete stop, unless a posted sign prohibits it.
Roundabouts
Traffic already in a roundabout has the right of way. Yield to circulating vehicles, enter when there is a safe gap, travel counterclockwise, and signal before you exit.
