Following distance
Use the three-second rule: pick a fixed object the vehicle ahead passes, then count. If you reach the object before you finish counting three seconds, you are following too closely. Increase your following distance in rain, snow, ice, or fog.
Sharing with cyclists and pedestrians
Colorado law requires drivers to leave at least three feet of space when passing a bicyclist. Always yield to pedestrians in marked or unmarked crosswalks, and never pass a vehicle stopped to let a pedestrian cross.
School buses
When a school bus stops and shows flashing red lights and an extended stop arm, you must stop in both directions unless you are separated from the bus by a physical median. Remain stopped until the lights stop flashing and the bus begins to move.
