Chapter 3 of 812% of exam
Carpet Installation
Carpet Installation is about 12% of the C-15 exam: tack strip, cushion, layout, seams and stretching. CSLB names the CRI installation standards as a reference. This page is a short survey; the PrepPass C-15 study guide teaches each method with worked layouts.
Stretch-in
Carpet is stretched over separate cushion onto tack strip at the walls. CRI makes the power stretcher mandatory; the knee kicker positions and hooks but does not stretch.
Gully
Slightly less than the carpet thickness, never over 3/8 in.
CRI 105 §11.1Stretch
At least 1% in length and width for tufted carpet with synthetic backing, absent manufacturer figures.
CRI 105 §11.5Seams
Seams run the length of the area, with the traffic, away from light across them and not perpendicular to doorways. All seams are sealed.
Hot melt
Made over a seaming board, iron run with the pile, heat shield required.
