Chapter 1 of 520% of exam

Planning and Estimating

Planning decides whether the job is C-6 work, what the drawings, specifications and grade require, which materials comply, and how the work fits the schedule; estimating turns it into board feet, sheets, linear feet and price. CSLB weights this section at 20%. For worked examples, named traps and a full practice exam at CSLB's weights, see the PrepPass C-6 Cabinet, Millwork and Finish Carpentry study guide.

Scope of the license

The C-6 makes, installs and finishes cabinets, millwork, trim, sashes, doors and nonbearing partitions. Framing, exterior stairs and railings are C-5 work; glass cutting is C-17.

C-6 scope
