Chapter 5 of 515% of exam

Worker and Job Site Safety

Safety covers personnel safety, job site safety, and recycling and disposal: the IIPP, PPE, noise, wood dust, silica from engineered stone, nail guns, ladders, fire, and CALGreen waste diversion. CSLB weights this section at 15%. For worked examples, named traps and a full practice exam at CSLB's weights, see the PrepPass C-6 Cabinet, Millwork and Finish Carpentry study guide.

Engineered stone

Cutting or polishing artificial stone with more than 0.1% silica is a high-exposure trigger task: wet methods, no compressed air or dry sweeping, and PAPR-class respirators.

Silica limits
PEL 50 and action level 25 micrograms per cubic meter.
Cal. Code Regs. tit. 8 §5204

Noise and dust

Hearing conservation starts at an 85 dBA 8-hour average; wood dust is limited to 2 mg/m3 (western red cedar 0.5).

Wood dust PEL
2 mg/m3 for soft and hard woods except western red cedar.
Cal. Code Regs. tit. 8 §5155

Waste diversion
