| Questions | 130–140 questions 120 scored items — 80 on the general (national) portion and 40 on the Maine law portion — plus unidentified, unscored pretest items: 5 on the general portion and 5 to 15 on the law portion. That is why the total is a range. Source: Pearson VUE — Maine Real Estate Candidate Handbook (December 2025, #092000) (2026-09-22) |
| Time limit | 240 minutes 2.5 hours for the general portion and 1.5 hours for the Maine law portion. Candidates for whom English is a second language may request 30 additional minutes per part. Source: Pearson VUE — Maine Real Estate Candidate Handbook (December 2025, #092000) (2026-09-22) |
| Passing score | Not published by the Maine Real Estate Commission and Pearson VUE (their statements disagree) The two official sources agree on the number 75 but not on what it is. Pearson VUE's handbook: the score is “a scaled score on a scale of 0-100” that “should not be interpreted as the percentage or number of questions answered correctly”, with a passing score of 75. The Commission's licensing page: pass the exam “with a minimum final grade of 75%”. PrepPass does not render a scaled score as a percentage, so no passing rule is shown. Retakes are allowed as often as needed while the Course Completion Certificate is valid; a candidate retakes whichever portion(s) were failed, after waiting 24 hours to book. | Fees |
The exam fee is paid to Pearson VUE when booking and is non-refundable and non-transferable. The Commission's FAQ gives the licence application total as $121 payable to the Maine State Treasurer, which matches the two lines above. The licence runs 2 years and is not renewable. | Languages offered | Not published by Maine Real Estate Commission / Pearson VUE No exam language list is published. The handbook offers extra time to candidates for whom English is a second language, but names no translated version; “Spanish” appears nowhere in the sources read. PrepPass therefore names no language.
