North Carolina Real Estate Broker License Examination — Exam facts
Administering bodyNorth Carolina Real Estate Commission (NCREC) — exam delivered by Pearson VUE

North Carolina licenses brokers only, so this single entry-level broker exam is the exam a new agent takes. It is delivered by computer at Pearson VUE test centers. Most applicants must first complete the North Carolina Broker Prelicensing Course of at least 75 instructional hours, with an end-of-course exam.

Passing scoreNot published by NCREC / Pearson VUE

The booklet states: “The passing score for each of the two sections of the license examination is 75 and is computed separately for each exam section” — without saying whether 75 is a percentage or a scaled score. PrepPass does not supply the unit. Both sections must be passed within the same 180-day eligibility period; after passing one section you retake only the other, otherwise the full exam is retaken.

Fees
  • $105 — License application fee (charged again with each new attempt) (North Carolina Real Estate Commission, per attempt)
  • $63 — Examination fee, both sections (Pearson VUE, per attempt)
  • $53 — Examination fee, one section only (retake) (Pearson VUE, per attempt)

The booklet states that each application submission and fee payment is valid for one attempt only, so both the Commission fee and the Pearson fee are paid again for every retake. A criminal record report, required with the application, is ordered separately at extra cost.
