Florida enforces strict impaired-driving limits and a graduated program for young drivers.
Blood-alcohol limits
A driver 21 or older is presumed impaired at 0.08% BAC, and a commercial driver at 0.04%. Under the zero-tolerance law, a driver under 21 can lose their license at 0.02% BAC or higher.
Graduated (GDL) restrictions
Sixteen-year-old drivers may not drive between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless with a licensed driver 21 or older or going to work. Seventeen-year-olds may not drive between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. with the same exceptions.
Points and penalties
The state adds points to your record for violations; for example, speeding or careless driving adds points, and reaching 12 points within 12 months brings a suspension of about 30 days. More points bring longer suspensions.
