Safe Driving & Sharing the Road
Managing space and cooperating with other road users prevents most crashes.
Following distance
Keep at least a two-second gap behind the vehicle ahead in good conditions, and increase it to four seconds or more in rain, fog, or heavy traffic and when following motorcycles or large trucks.
Move Over law
When approaching a stopped emergency, law-enforcement, tow, or utility vehicle with flashing lights, move over one lane if you can. If you cannot move over safely, slow to well below the posted speed limit.
Emergency vehicles and school buses
Yield to approaching emergency vehicles by pulling to the right and stopping until they pass. On a two-way road, all traffic must stop for a school bus with flashing red lights and stay stopped until it moves.
