Signs & Signals
Florida road signs and signals use standard shapes and colors to give rules and warnings.
Sign shapes
A red octagon means STOP and requires a full stop. A downward-pointing triangle means YIELD. Yellow diamond-shaped signs warn of hazards ahead, and a round yellow sign marked with an X and two R's warns of a railroad crossing.
Traffic signals
A steady red means stop and a steady yellow warns that red is next. A flashing red light is treated like a stop sign, while a flashing yellow means slow down and proceed with caution.
Pavement markings
Yellow lines separate traffic moving in opposite directions; a solid yellow line on your side means no passing, and a broken yellow line means passing is allowed when safe. White lines separate lanes going the same way.
