Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules keep intersections orderly by stating who must yield, not who is guaranteed to go.
Stops and intersections
At a four-way stop, the first vehicle to arrive goes first; when two arrive together, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. A road that ends at a T-intersection must yield to traffic on the through road.
Turns and roundabouts
When turning left on a green light with no arrow, yield to oncoming traffic and pedestrians before completing the turn. Entering a roundabout, yield to vehicles already circulating and keep to the right.
Emergency vehicles
When an emergency vehicle approaches with lights and siren, pull to the right edge of the road and stop until it passes. Do not follow closely behind emergency vehicles.
