Traffic Signs & Signals
Signs, signals, and pavement markings communicate the rules and warn of hazards on Georgia roads.
Shapes and colors
A red octagon always means STOP, and a downward triangle means YIELD. Yellow diamond-shaped signs warn of hazards or road changes ahead, while a five-sided pentagon marks a school zone or crossing.
Traffic signals
A steady red means stop and a steady yellow warns that red is coming. A flashing red is treated like a stop sign, and a flashing yellow means slow down and proceed with caution.
Pavement markings
Yellow lines separate traffic moving in opposite directions, and double solid yellow lines mark a no-passing zone. White lines separate lanes going the same way, and a broken white line may be crossed to change lanes when it is safe.
