Scott's Law
Illinois' Move Over law, known as Scott's Law, requires you to slow down and change to a lane away from a stopped emergency or maintenance vehicle with flashing lights when it is safe to do so.
Motorcycles and trucks
Give motorcycles a full lane and extra following distance, and check carefully for them before turning or changing lanes. Large trucks have wide blind spots, or no-zones; if you cannot see the driver's mirrors, they cannot see you.
Seat belts and lane changes
Illinois requires the driver and all passengers to wear seat belts, with children in proper restraints. Before changing lanes, signal, check your mirrors, and glance over your shoulder to clear the blind spot.
