Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules keep intersections orderly and protect people who cannot protect themselves, like pedestrians and children near school buses. In Kentucky you yield rather than insist on going first.
Intersections and merging
At an uncontrolled intersection, yield to the driver on your right when you arrive together. When entering a highway, use the acceleration lane to match speed and merge into a safe gap rather than stopping on the ramp.
Turning and yielding
Left turns require you to yield to oncoming traffic and nearby pedestrians until it is safe. Signal early and complete the turn into the correct lane.
School buses and the Move Over law
Stop for a school bus showing flashing red lights and an extended stop arm on undivided roads, in both directions, until it is withdrawn. Kentucky's Move Over law requires you to change lanes or slow down for stopped emergency and service vehicles with warning lights.
