Signs & Signals
Kentucky organizes traffic signs by shape, color, and symbol so you can read them at a glance. Pavement markings and signal lights work with the signs to tell you where to go and when.
Shapes and colors
A red octagon means STOP; an inverted triangle means YIELD; a round sign warns of a railroad crossing; a pentagon marks a school zone. Red means stop or prohibit, yellow warns, orange marks work zones, green guides, and blue shows services.
Pavement markings
Yellow lines separate traffic moving in opposite directions; white lines separate lanes going the same way. A broken line means passing or lane changes are allowed when safe, while a solid line discourages or prohibits crossing.
Signal lights
Steady red means stop, steady yellow means the light is about to turn red, and steady green means go when clear. A green arrow is a protected turn; flashing red works like a STOP sign, and flashing yellow means proceed with caution.
