Sharing the Road Safely
Malaysian roads carry many motorcyclists, pedestrians, and cyclists who are highly exposed and need extra care.
Helmets and seat belts
Motorcyclists and pillion riders must wear a securely fastened protective helmet, and car drivers and front-seat passengers must wear seat belts where fitted. These habits sharply reduce injury in a crash.
Pedestrians and motorcyclists
Give way to pedestrians at marked crossings and never overtake a vehicle stopped for a crossing. Watch for motorcyclists, especially where a dedicated motorcycle lane merges with the main road.
Keeping a safe gap
Leave a following distance that lets you stop safely, and increase it in rain, at higher speed, or when visibility is poor, because stopping distances grow.
