Speed & Road Conditions
Safe speed depends on the road, weather, and traffic, not just the number on the sign.
Limits are a maximum
A posted speed limit is the most you may drive in good conditions, and limits vary by road type. Drive below the limit when conditions are poor, and always obey posted signs.
Schools and busy areas
Slow to a low, cautious speed near schools and busy town areas, where children and pedestrians may step out suddenly. Be ready to stop at any moment.
Tropical rain and darkness
Heavy rain reduces grip and visibility and lengthens stopping distances, so slow down and leave a bigger gap. At night or in rain use dipped headlights, not high beam, which reflects back and dazzles others.
