Safe Driving & Sharing the Road
Safe drivers manage space, stay visible, and give room to more vulnerable road users. These habits prevent the everyday crashes that happen at low speeds.
Following distance
Keep at least a two-second gap behind the vehicle ahead in good conditions, and increase it in rain, fog, or on slippery roads. Extra space gives you time to react and stop safely.
Motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians
Motorcycles need a full lane and are easy to overlook, so give them room and check your blind spots. Watch for bicyclists and always yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
Work zones and seat belts
Slow down in work zones, obey posted limits and flaggers, and watch for workers; fines are often doubled. All occupants must wear a seat belt, and young children must ride in a proper child restraint.
