Signs & Signals
Mississippi traffic signs are organized by shape and color so you can identify them at a glance. Recognizing what each requires helps you react early and answer these questions with confidence.
Shapes and colors
A red octagon means STOP and a downward triangle means YIELD. Yellow diamond signs warn of a hazard or change ahead, and a round yellow sign with an X and RR warns of a railroad crossing. White regulatory signs give rules such as speed limits.
Traffic signals
A steady red means stop and stay stopped. A flashing red has the same meaning as a STOP sign: stop, then go when safe. A flashing yellow means slow down and proceed with caution. A green arrow gives a protected turn in the arrow's direction.
Pavement markings
A solid yellow line on your side of a two-lane road means no passing there, while a broken yellow line means you may pass when the way is clear. White lines separate lanes of traffic moving in the same direction.
