Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules settle who goes first so traffic moves safely. In Nebraska you yield rather than force your way, and you make room for stopped emergency vehicles.
Intersections and stops
At a four-way stop, the first driver to arrive goes first; if two arrive together, the driver on the left yields to the driver on the right. At an uncontrolled intersection, yield to vehicles already there and to the vehicle on your right.
Turning and yielding
When turning left, yield to oncoming traffic and to pedestrians in the crosswalk before you turn. Signal early so others can anticipate your move.
Move Over Law
When you approach a stopped emergency, law-enforcement, or maintenance vehicle showing flashing lights, move over one lane if you can do so safely. If not, slow down and pass with caution.
