Signs & Signals
Nebraska traffic signs use shape and color so you can read them quickly. Knowing what each requires helps you react early and answer these questions with confidence.
Shapes and colors
A red octagon means STOP and a downward triangle means YIELD. Yellow diamond signs warn of hazards or changes ahead, and a round yellow sign with an X and RR warns of a railroad crossing. White signs give regulatory rules such as speed limits.
Traffic signals
A steady red means stop and stay stopped. A flashing red means stop, then go when safe, like a STOP sign. A flashing yellow means slow down and proceed with caution. A green arrow gives a protected turn.
Pavement markings
A solid yellow line on your side means no passing there, while a broken yellow line means you may pass when it is clear. White lines separate lanes of traffic going the same direction.
