Speed & Conditions
Posted limits are set for ideal conditions. Nevada's Basic Speed Law also requires you to slow down when traffic, weather, or the road makes the posted limit unsafe.
Speed limits
Nevada posts up to 80 mph on designated rural interstate segments, among the highest limits in the country, with lower limits elsewhere and in cities. Always obey the posted signs, which may be lower than the maximum.
Basic Speed Law
Never drive faster than is reasonable and safe for current conditions, even when that speed is below the posted limit. Adjust for traffic, weather, curves, and visibility.
Rain, fog, and merging
Slow down and increase your following distance in rain or reduced visibility, and use low beams in fog. When entering a freeway, use the ramp to match traffic speed and merge into an open gap.
