Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules keep traffic moving safely by making clear who proceeds first.
Uncontrolled intersections
Where no signs or signals control an intersection, yield to the vehicle on your right. Always yield to pedestrians crossing at a marked crosswalk.
Turning and merging
When turning left across oncoming traffic, wait for a safe gap and yield to oncoming vehicles and pedestrians. When merging onto a highway, match traffic speed and blend into a gap.
Roundabouts, buses and emergency vehicles
Yield to traffic already in a roundabout and drive counter-clockwise. Stop in both directions for a school bus with flashing red lights on an undivided road, and give way to emergency vehicles.
