Safe Driving & Sharing the Road

Good drivers keep space, stay visible and protect more vulnerable road users.

Following distance

Keep at least a two-second gap behind the vehicle ahead in good conditions and more when it is wet, snowy or foggy. Space gives you time to see and react.

Cyclists and pedestrians

Leave about a metre of space when passing a cyclist and pass only when it is safe. Slow down and watch for pedestrians near crosswalks, schools and bus stops.

Blind spots and stopped vehicles

Signal and shoulder-check before changing lanes, because mirrors leave blind spots. Slow down and move over for emergency and service vehicles stopped on the shoulder.
