Speed & Winter Conditions
Posted limits are for ideal conditions; New Brunswick winters demand slower, smoother driving.
Speed limits
Unless posted otherwise, the limit in built-up areas is 50 km/h, with higher limits on rural roads and highways. Always drive to conditions, which may be slower than the sign.
Snow and ice
Reduce speed, increase your following distance and avoid sudden braking or steering on snow and ice. Winter tyres and clearing all snow and ice from your vehicle improve safety.
Recovering from a skid
If the vehicle skids, ease off the accelerator and steer gently in the direction you want to go. Sudden braking can lock the wheels and make a skid worse.
