Speed & Conditions
Speed limits are maximums for ideal conditions; you must adjust to weather, traffic and the road.
Speed limits
Unless a sign says otherwise, the limit in built-up areas is 50 km/h, with higher posted limits on rural roads and highways. Drive to conditions, which may mean going slower than the posted limit.
Rain, fog and snow
Reduce speed, switch on low-beam headlights and leave extra following distance when visibility or traction is poor. High beams reflect off fog and can reduce what you see.
Skids and hydroplaning
If your tyres lose grip on water, ease off the accelerator and steer straight until you regain traction rather than braking hard. Smooth, gentle inputs help you keep control.
