Novice and young drivers face a zero-alcohol rule and strict G1 conditions.
Zero BAC for novices
G1 and G2 novice drivers, and all drivers aged 21 and under, must have a blood alcohol level of zero when driving. Any detectable alcohol can lead to penalties and licence suspension.
G1 restrictions
A G1 driver must be accompanied by a fully licensed driver with at least four years of driving experience whose blood alcohol is under 0.05. G1 drivers must not drive between midnight and 5 a.m. or on 400-series and other high-speed expressways.
Demerit points
Convictions for driving offences add demerit points to your record, and reaching set totals leads to warnings, interviews or suspension. Demerit points stay on your record for two years from the offence date.
