Rules of the Road & Right of Way
Right-of-way rules at intersections, stops and around buses keep traffic safe.
Intersections and stops
At a four-way stop, the first vehicle to arrive has the right to go first; if two arrive together, yield to the vehicle on your right. At an intersection with no signs, yield to a vehicle approaching from your right.
School buses
On a road without a median, you must stop whether you are behind or meeting a stopped school bus with its upper red lights flashing. Do not move until the lights stop flashing and it is safe.
Emergency vehicles and moving over
When an emergency vehicle approaches with lights or siren, pull to the right and stop if you can. When passing a stopped emergency or tow vehicle with its lights on, slow down and, if safe, move over to leave a lane of space.
