Good following distance, observation and control help you avoid collisions.
Following distance and seatbelts
Keep at least a two-second following distance in good conditions, and more in poor weather. In Ontario the driver and every passenger must wear a seatbelt or use the correct child seat.
Blind spots and lane changes
Before changing lanes, check your mirrors and do a shoulder check to cover your blind spot, then signal. Mirrors alone do not show everything beside your vehicle.
Skids and bad weather
If your car begins to skid, ease off the gas and steer smoothly in the direction you want to go; avoid braking hard. Slow down in rain, snow or fog to reduce the risk of skidding or hydroplaning.
