Signs & Signals
Oregon traffic signs use shape and color so you can read them quickly. Recognizing each one helps you react in time and answer these questions with confidence.
Shapes and colors
A red octagon means STOP and a downward triangle means YIELD. Yellow diamond signs warn of hazards ahead, and white rectangular signs are regulatory, stating laws such as speed limits that you must obey.
Traffic signals
A steady red means stop and stay stopped. A green arrow gives you a protected turn while oncoming traffic is held, but you still watch for pedestrians. A flashing yellow means proceed with caution.
Pavement markings
Yellow lines separate opposing traffic and white lines separate same-direction lanes. Double solid yellow lines mean neither direction may cross to pass.
