Impaired driving is a serious crime, and Pennsylvania's Graduated Driver Licensing program adds protections for new and young drivers. Points from convictions can suspend your privilege.
Blood alcohol limits
A driver 21 or older is guilty of DUI at a BAC of 0.08% or higher, with harsher penalties at higher tiers. Drivers under 21 face a stricter limit of 0.02%, and any illegal drug use while driving is prohibited.
Graduated Driver Licensing
Learner's permit holders under 18 must complete 65 hours of supervised practice, including 10 at night and 5 in poor weather, before the road test. Junior license holders face passenger limits and a nighttime restriction.
Night restriction and points
Junior drivers generally may not drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. except for work or emergencies. Accumulating points from traffic convictions can trigger warning letters, retesting or suspension.
