Safe Driving & Sharing the Road
Pennsylvania roads are shared with pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, trucks and roadside workers. Defensive habits and giving others room prevent most collisions.
Steer Clear / Move Over
When approaching a stopped emergency response area with flashing lights, move into a lane farther away when possible, and slow down when you cannot move over, to protect responders and workers.
Bicyclists and trucks
State law requires at least four feet of clearance when passing a bicyclist. Large trucks have wide blind spots, or no-zones, so avoid lingering beside them and remember that if you cannot see the driver's mirrors, they cannot see you.
Seat belts and restraints
The driver and front-seat passengers must buckle up, and children must ride in age- and size-appropriate car or booster seats, with younger children in the back seat.
