Signs & Signals
Signs and signals give you instructions and warnings. Reading them early lets you plan your next move calmly.
Regulatory signs
Regulatory signs set legal rules. A red octagonal STOP sign means stop completely behind the line, then give way. A triangular GIVE WAY sign means slow down and be ready to stop to give way to traffic and pedestrians. A number in a red circle is the maximum speed limit for that road.
Warning signs
Yellow diamond-shaped signs warn of hazards ahead, such as curves, crests, crossings or merging traffic. They help you prepare and slow down. A yellow advisory speed sign under a warning tells you a safe speed for that hazard.
Lights and lane signals
Red means stop; yellow means stop if you can do so safely; green means go if the way is clear. Overhead lane signals matter too: a red 'X' above a lane means the lane is closed and you must not drive in it, while a green arrow means the lane is open.
