Illinois Licensing Requirements
Illinois sets education, examination, and sponsorship requirements to obtain a license. Meeting these prerequisites is the first step to practicing.
Education and Examination
Candidates for a broker license must complete required pre-license education and pass the state licensing examination administered through PSI. The exam has separate national and state portions that must both be passed. Applicants must be at least 18 and meet character requirements.
Sponsorship and Renewal
A newly licensed broker must be sponsored by a managing broker to activate the license. Licenses must be renewed periodically with continuing education, including post-license courses for first-term brokers. Maintaining sponsorship and current CE keeps the license active.
