Chapter 15 of 1515% of exam

State Licensing Requirements (Massachusetts)

This topic covers Massachusetts's education, examination, and renewal requirements for salespersons.

Becoming Licensed

To become a Massachusetts real estate salesperson, an applicant must be at least 18, complete 40 hours of approved prelicensing education, and pass the licensing examination administered on behalf of the Board. The salesperson license is then held under a sponsoring broker who supervises the salesperson's activity.

Renewal and Continuing Education

Massachusetts real estate licenses are renewed every two years, and licensees must complete the required continuing education hours to renew. Continuing education keeps licensees current on law, agency, fair housing, and practice. A salesperson who gains the required experience may later qualify to apply for a broker license.
